This Teacher's Day, the teachers at Colaba Municipal Hindi School No. 2 received a special gift that brought a smile to their faces and to those of their students. As a token of appreciation to teachers who dedicate their lives to building a better future for their students, Tetra Pak India donated 8 sets of classroom furniture made of recycled cartons to the school. Tetra Pak is the world's leading food processing and packaging solutions company and has been encouraging recycling of used paper-based Tetra Pak cartons in Mumbai for over 8 years as part of their initiative- Cartons Le Aao, Classroom Banao. Since 2010, the company has been urging Mumbaikars to deposit used Tetra Pak cartons at over 180 deposit centres that have been set up across the city. These cartons are recycled and put to innovative use like making desks, notebooks, roofing sheets and much more, for lesser privileged children.
The donation to Colaba Municipal Hindi School was made in the presence of Ms. Harshita Narwekar, Corporator- Cuffe Parade (ward 226), who said, "Each of us, individually, should take responsible measures to spread awareness and understand the impact of proper waste management. Through the Cartons Le Aao, Classroom Banao initiative, we are not just promoting the habit of recycling, but also giving the students necessary classroom infrastructure. We would like to thank Tetra Pak and the team associated with this program for taking strong steps to expand this initiative throughout Mumbai. It is heart-warming to witness how small steps by citizens like us, with support from committed organizations can make such a meaningful difference."
"We are very proud of our students and the hard-work that they put into their studies. Our teachers are committed and go beyond their roles to make sure that we are creating a good learning environment for our students. With support from Tetra Pak and the desks donated by them, we will be able to motivate both the students and the staff even more. It will also help inculcate the value of adopting to green practices and make them more responsible towards the environment. We are thankful to Tetra Pak for bringing smiles to the faces of our students, and for encouraging effective recycling," adds Mr. Ambaring Magar, Principal, Colaba Municipal Hindi School
Cartons Le Aao, Classroom Banao is part of Tetra Pak India's flagship program called Go Green which started in 2010. This initiative is run in partnership with Reliance Retail with their stores acting as used carton drop-off points for consumers. Mumbai based environment enterprise, RUR Greenlife, is the execution partner for the program, organizing various consumer education events and activities across Mumbai.
"No one can transform the future of children the way devoted teachers can. For us, this is a small contribution to Colaba Municipal Hindi School, on behalf of the people of Mumbai, to create a better learning environment for the children. We started the recycling journey in Mumbai 8 years ago, and we are very proud to see this program gain support from Mumbaikars and grow to where it is today. So far, we have been able to donate 260 desks to lesser privileged schools in Mumbai and we hope that Mumbaikars will continue to support us on our recycling mission, and help us reach many more schools in the years to come," says Jaideep Gokhale, Communications Director, South and South East Asia, Tetra Pak.
