​​​​​​​​​​FSC® label now visible on 70% of all Tetra Pak packaging in Malaysia 

With over 65 billion Tetra Pak cartons globally carrying the FSC® label, consumers are increasingly picking the pack that grows back​. 

Following decade of its partnership with Forest Stewardship Council®. 100% of all Tetra Pak paperboard is now sourced from FSC® certified forests. Other controlled sources, reaching consumers around the globe. 

In Malaysia, over 70 percent of all Tetra Pak carton​​​​​s carry the FSC® label. Consumers can rest assured that all Tetra Pak cartons are produced and sourced. These are sourced and produced from FSC® certified forests and other controlled sources. Since Tetra Pak’s FSC®-labelled packaging was first made available in Malaysia in 2014, the company has been actively working. It has enabled its customers to understand the significance of the certification label.​

  • Linaco Manufacturing (M) Sdn Bhd (Cowa, Rasaku)
  • Malaysia Milk Sdn Bhd (Marigold)
  • Nestle Products Sdn Bhd (Milo, Nescafe, Just Milk, Nestle Omega Plus)
  • PepsiCo (M) Sdn Bhd (Tropicana)

Tetra Pak launched the first ever FSC labelled beverage cartons globally in 2007, and has scaled great heights since then. In 2016, some 65 billion Tetra Pak packages with the distinctive FSC logo of a little tree. With that a tick appeared on retail shelves around the world, up from 54 billion in 2015. This trend is expected to increase as consumers become more aware of the FSC label and what it signifies.

FSC label on Tetra-Pak packages assures environmentally-conscious consumers that paperboard used in Tetra-Pak cartons are sourced from well-managed forests. They are independently certified in adherence to Forest Stewardship Council standards.​

Tetra Pak's FSC-labelled beverage cartons are available in thousands of stores around the world. This helps enabling consumers to actively support responsible forestry while purchasing their favourite beverage.

According to Brian May, Managing Director of Tetra Pak Malaysia, Singapore and Philippines, "Consumers are increasingly conscious. They are conscious of the environmental impact of the products they buy, expecting businesses to help them make better choices. The FSC certification plays a part as a recognisable hallmark for responsible forest management. Whether consumers know it or not, every time they pick-up beverage in Tetra-Pak carton, they are effectively demonstrating their support. They are demonstrating for responsible and sustainable forestry practices and standards."

"We actively encourage our customers to display the FSC label on their packages as many consumers recognise and value label. They want to pick the pack that grows back," May said.

Tetra Pak Malaysia, in collaboration with FSC Asia Pacific, launched the "Pick the Pack that Grows Back" campaign in 2016. It has proven to be highly effective in educating Malaysian consumers on the benefits of FSC-certification.

Tetra-Pak is leader in its industry in advocating 100% renewable packaging, by using renewable materials and ensuring responsible supply chain. In order to reduce the strain on global resources, which is good for the environment and for business. Tetra Pak ensures that the paperboard they use comes from forests that are well managed.​

As part of Tetra-Pak's efforts towards fully renewable packaging, it launched new version of Tetra-Brik® Aseptic-1000-Edge with Bio-based LightCap™ 30. Manufactured using a bio-based film and cap, and made from polymers derived from sugar cane.

By promoting FSC certification, Tetra Pak also supports biodiversity and social responsibility. This is complemented by its forestry programme that focuses on the traceability of supply and on responsible forest management. The FSC certification offers one of the most credible forest certification schemes for businesses. Besides conserving high biodiversity-value-forests, certification scheme further aims to ensure that businesses respect the rights-of-workers, communities, and indigenous peoples.​

Having achieved full FSC Chain of Custody certification for all its converting plants and market companies. Tetra Pak can now supply FSC-labelled packages from anywhere in the world, including Malaysia. ​
